Message from your Administrative Team
The finish line is most definitely in sight, it has been a great year of learning and sharing new experiences at Lancaster. We have enjoyed so many opportunities to grow with students and have seen successes big and small.
We would like to wish our most fond farewells to Lancaster staff members who have contributed greatly to the energy of the building and the care of students. Retiring this year are Dave Wilkins, Lindsay Sirman, Ian Stalker, Thelma Scott and Diane Crevier. We will also be saying goodbye to Mme. Grace Kirkland as she joins the staff at Ecole Polson Park next year. All of these members of our Lancaster family have been such an integral part of the story of our school and we know that they will find new adventures as they journey into retirement and new positions. Warm wishes to all : )
With retirements comes staffing changes for the 2018-19 school year as we welcome new staff to our building through the teacher transfer round of the staffing process. Debra Cancian (6/7), Kelly Boriotis (3/4), and Molly Brunet (0.67 SK/1) will be joining us from their various sites and will be great additions to the staff team. Our EA staff will be announced after their placement meeting on June 29.
It has been a tremedous year at Lancaster and we recognize all of the hard work from our students, our staff, our parent council and our families. We are such a strong school community because of the people in it, the heart that goes into what we do, and the "why" behind it all. Our students and your children are treasured by many. Have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you back in September!
Your leaders in learning,
Lani Fox & Sara Wellwood

Letter from your Parent Council Chair
Dear Lancaster Families,
We are ready for the warmth and sunshine that this month of June will bring. There are only days left until we say good bye to the 2017/2018 school year.
This school has been filled with so many wonderful opportunities and events that have been created, planned and presented by our school’s parent council. Our parent council is filled with so many amazing and wonderful parents who have dedicated their time to our school. There is a lot that goes on between meetings and events to be able to pull off a year filled with success. I would like to send out my greatest appreciation and gratitude for each member who participated on council this year. We are so lucky to have each and everyone of you give so much for Lancaster.
Parent surveys were delivered home with the students recently and the responses have been quick to return. This information that we can gather from the Lancaster families really helps us to not only step back and look at how our year has unfolded, the relevance and critiques but also gives us momentum to go forward to the next year. All the time you take into filling out the survey as well as every answer and comments you select are incredibly valuable to the members.
At our last parent council meeting, which was held on Tuesday June 5, we received two funds requests for the school and we chose to support both. The council agreed to supply funds to replace Chrome books for the students as well as help purchase new school team jerseys and gym equipment.
We have a few more items on the agenda for June:
- · Friday June 15th parent council members will be in attendance to welcome and talk with new and current families at the Kindergarten rooms for the morning visits.
- · Friday June 22nd is the day when we put together a wonderful lunch for the teachers and staff of Lancaster to show them our appreciation for another great year.
- · Monday June 25th with be our last coffee (and treats) social out on the yard before school starts. Rain date will be Tuesday June 26th.
- · Thursday June 28th, following the lunch recess, the students will be receiving a Popsicle Party from Parent Council.
On June 24th, there will be a Fall planning meeting being held with current and interested parent council members. We will be discussing ideas for events, fundraisers, summarize the surveys, September meetings and council positions. If you have any interest in joining our meeting or would like to send along interest in a position for the next school year, please contact our chair Serena Milling at serenamilling@hotmail.com.
September meetings have been set and marked on the calendar. On Tuesday September 11th, we will be holding a parent council information evening. The following Tuesday September 18th will be the night in which we will hold our council position elections. All parents are welcome, and we hope to see you there.
Wishing you all a safe and happy summer vacation.
Sincerely,
Serena Milling

If you would like to be a paid lunch monitor starting in September, please let Sara Wellwood know via email or letter.
You can also indicate you are available on an emergency basis to come in only if one of our regular monitors needs to be away.
The hour of paid work is 12:20-1:20 pm, Monday to Friday.
If you have any questions, please let us know.
Thank you,
Sara Wellwood
Student Allergy and Asthma Forms
This year, we are hoping to have medical forms for allergies and special medical circumstances, including asthma, completed, signed and returned before the end of June. This will help us start the 2018-2019 school year with each child’s medical safety at the forefront. We are sending home forms for parents/guardians to update and return before the end of June. If you do not receive the forms, please notify the school and we will send home a copy.
Alternatively, you can print the appropriate forms package - which are attached below.
Thank you for working with us to keep your medical files up to date.

THE TD SUMMER READING CLUB RETURNS TO YOUR PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Kingston Frontenac Public Library is delighted to welcome back the TD Summer Reading Club (TDSRC)!
This summer with the TDSRC, children are encouraged to dive into areas that already fascinate them, dabble in others for new inspiration and discover that their passions have the potential to transform them, their friends and their world.
All kids participating in the club will receive a special bilingual notebook to track their progress, a web access code for the virtual club on the TDSRC website, stickers, and the chance to win prizes. Kids 12 and younger can participate in the TDSRC anytime, anywhere ̶ at the KFPL, at home, online, on the road where their summer takes them, or at any of the 2,000 participating public libraries in Canada. KFPL also provides materials in alternative formats, such as audio or Braille.
On June 23, join us for the club’s exciting launch at the Isabel Turner to catch a performance of The Man Whose Mother Was a Pirate by the Thousand Islands Playhouse. This performance is one of the many free activities that KFPL will provide over the course of the summer. This summer’s lineup includes: LEGO Club, Puppet Show Extravaganza tours, Stories in the Park and, of course, the very popular "Live @ the Library" series. "Live" performers include: musicians, artists, live animals, and much more!
Including “Live @ the Library” shows, the Library will be offering over 200 free programs and events for children during June, July and August across the city and in Sydenham and Sharbot Lake. For more information about Live at the Library performers and other events, pick up the summer edition of What’s Happening, call your local branch, or visit the Programs and Events section of the Library’s website at www.kfpl.ca.
Weather Guidelines
The Limestone District School Board works with KFL&A Public Health regarding extreme weather that might affect students and staff attending our schools. Schools within Limestone follow the guidance of KFL&A Public Health. When an extreme heat or extreme cold weather alert or warning is issued, each school will take appropriate precautions. It is important to note that decisions are usually made on a case-by-case basis as weather conditions can vary greatly within our district.
Extreme heat:
KFL&A Public Health has adopted a series of extreme heat thresholds to inform the community on the measures they can take to reduce the health effects of hot, humid, and smoggy weather. Between May 1 and September 30, KFL&A Public Health monitors forecasted weather conditions and issues heat advisories when a hot or humid air mass is forecasted and heat-related health effects may occur. Schools take precautions during hot, humid, or smoggy weather that may include encouraging students and staff to drink plenty of cool liquids, especially water, before feeling thirsty; avoiding sun exposure; and rescheduling strenuous outdoor activity where necessary.
